- Hello to all Hams:
-
- My name is Bryan Parlee, VE3BKP, a native of Ontario and a temporary
- resident of Nova Scotia, Canada. I am attending the College of Geographic
- Sciences and as an Amateur Operator (although only 8months with my ticket)
- I am looking for some data. My career and study area deals with spatial
- mapping, satellite imagery, computer modelling and so on. This industry
- area is known as Geomatics. I am intending to construct/design a
- Communications Database/Mapping system using existing GIS software like
- SPANS or ARC/INFO. What is missing however, are known sources of
- informations/data for Ontario repeaters. I have a list of the actual
- repaters, call, input, and output...but I would like to go deeper than
- that with data such as wattage, RX range, Transmission radius,
- location coordinates, packet linkage info, and functions available.
-
- Does anyone know of such a source or perhaps a contact that could
- provide such information??

- Hi!.
-
- Recently, I asked if there is a version of ka9q for windows. here
- are some answers:
-
- THERE IS NO KA9Q.
- The versions of Ka9q will not run under a DOS box in Windows, but
- there are some patches that will help you.
- There is also a software called Trumped Winsock that implements
- TCP/IP in windows.
-
- Thanks to everyone who answered me.

-
- JNOS version 1.07b or later WILL run in a Window happily.
- You can find it on UCSD.EDU and many other FTP sites.
-
- Do an archie search on "JNOS" for more options.

-
- Now I'm confused. I have been running PA0GRI's version of KA9Q's NOS in a
- DOS window under Windows(tm) for a month now. It works like a charm. I
- leave it running while my daughter uses Write, Paintbrush, games, etc...
-
- Sometimes I even run PCelm in a second DOS window and use a Windows based
- freeware emacs rip-off to edit mail and replies.
-
- I am only running a 16MHz 386SX with 8Meg and a VGA monitor.
-
- I haven't tried Phil's latest one from Mecca under Windows, but, I imagine it
- would work the same. While the L&G (Latest and Greatest) from KA9Q himself
- doesn't have some of the features of JNOS, MFNOS, GRINOS, etc, etc, etc, it
- does have an on screen unACK'd frame counter and a separate session for trace
- stuff.
-
- >Thanks to everyone who answered me.
- You're quite welcome. For the benefit of others, here is what I sent Erich
- last week:
-
- | I don't know if there is one FOR windows. I doubt it. On ucsd.edu is a
- | file /hamradio/packet/tcpip/mswin/mswinnos.zip. It contains some notes and
- | a .PIF file that will allow NOS to run in a DOS window under Windows(tm).
- | It works quite well.
- |
- | This will NOT work with the BayCom style modems. They put too much load on
- | the system to be able to run under Windows.

- I have a PK-88 set up to forward mail to my home bbs. It will not do

- 17. "FECing" is OK, but I prefer "Masterstation".
- 16. Take TNC (you're old if you "get" this).
- 15. Just the FAX, ma'am.
- 14. COMPRESSED PACKET runs 8-level code. You can KISS ASCII.
- 13. I FEC'd for hours, but my contact never came.
- 12. You bet your ASCII I run digital mode!
- 11. "QRL?" the frequency first: Practice safe FECs.
- 10. AMTOR is just a baby-SITOR. (bah-dump!)
- 9. Reach out & FEC someone.
- 8. DIGITAL MODE: It's a kick in the ASCII!
- 7. AMTOR: It's FEC'n fun!
- 6. Noah's ARQ.
- 5. In AMTOR it takes two to perform "Masterstation".
- 4. FEC until you're ARQ'd.
- 3. I can't decode 7-level, so you'd better byte my ASCII.
- 2. Keep on FEC'n (tie-dyed shirt seen at a 'Dead concert).
-
- and the number 1 slogan
-
- 1. Put your TNC in loopback, and FEC yourself!
